My Big Walleye Caught in Northern Minnesota

  Walleye are by far the most prized gamefish in Minnesota and I caught this nice 9 pounder in northern Minnesota about twenty years ago. I was fishing on the beautiful Big Fork River below a small waterfall. I was using an ultralight rod and real with a leech and bobber. He put up a great fight but finally I beached him or her and kept it (catch and release might have been a better option, but regardless we enjoyed a great meal and I got this picture of what will probably be my all time best walleye, and a day fishing I'll never forget.)

  This website/blog is dedicated to my Dad, who taught me all I know about fishing, and who shared with me his precious time on the water in pursuit of the explosive large mouth bass, the much prized walleye, and the tasty crappie and bluegills. At the same time he taught me lessons about patience, persistence and sportsmanship. We always respected game laws and legal limits. We knew that there was more to fishing than just the fish. There was the early morning stillness and the mist rising from the lake. There were birds galore and all the beauties of nature. And of course the pleasure and pride that comes when get home with a good mess of fish in hand. Thanks Dad for all you did to make those golden day so special.
